2009 Contest Rules

1. Each
comedienne
MUST
be a female (yes, we had to put that in the rules). There are NO RESIDENCE requirements.
2. Two ways to enter the contest:
a. Each comedienne must submit a DVD of her comedy of at least 8 minutes. The DVD's will
NOT
be returned. Please
NO VHS
tapes.
b. Or submit entries ONLINE. Email to info@funniestfemale.com a bio/resume and a link to an online video of her comedy of at least 8 minutes.
3. Teams of two comediennes (improv or standup) are welcome. Teams cannot be larger than two comediennes. NOTE - teams must have DVD's showing them performing together. (Again, both need to
be female.)
4. Each comedienne must submit a DVD (or online entry), bio/resume and contact info no later than May 20, 2009 to
Word-Up Productions, 1835 Newport Blvd. A109, #404, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, ATTN - California's Funniest Female Contest.
Please include an email address with your contact info.
5. The contest
committee will pick 90 comediennes for the contest. The 90 comediennes' names will be posted on this website no later than May 25, 2009.
6. All participants are responsible for their own lodging and transportation to the contest.
7. The 90 comediennes will perform (10 per round) in nine preliminary rounds. Each comedienne will get
8 minutes.
8. For each of
the nine preliminary rounds, the judges will choose four comediennes to advance to the quarterfinal rounds. Four fifth place finishers from the nine preliminary rounds will advance to the quarterfinal rounds. These fifth place finishers will be the top four who were the closest to fourth place on their preliminary round.
9. There will be
four quarterfinal rounds. There are ten comediennes per quarterfinal round. Each comedienne will get 8 minutes. The judges will choose four comediennes per quarterfinal round to advance to the semifinal round. Two fifth place finishers from the four quarterfinal rounds will advance to the semifinal rounds. These fifth place finishers will be the top two who were the closest to fourth place on their quarterfinal round.
10. There will be two semifinal rounds. There are nine comediennes per semifinal round. Each comedienne will get
9 minutes.
The judges will choose four comediennes per semifinal round to advance to the final round.
11. The eight comediennes of the final round will get
10 minutes
each.
12. The
judges of the final round will choose the top four comediennes.
The prize money is as follows:
First Place: $700.00
Second Place:
$400.00
Third Place: $300.00
Fourth Place: $200.00

The "Gallery" Theater is between the 5 and the 55 freeway. Going South on the 5 Fwy, just past the 55 Fwy. Go north on Newport ave. (first off-ramp). Go north on Newport ave, (under the 5 Fwy) then left at the first signal at El Camino Real, Old Town Tustin 92780. Go to Jamestown Plaza, it is on the left across from Armstrong Nursery.
There will be soft drinks and water available for a
donation. No alcohol or food will be available. |
